The summer never completely ends down the Jersey Shore. Even in the depths of January, when vacation homes are boarded up and the temperatures and inches of snow are both in the teens, the boardwalks and beaches are seldom deserted. There's always a boardwalk snack bar open to serve coffee to the occasional jogger or walker, someone playing with their dog on the beach, or a few diehard surfers in wet suits challenging the winter waves. The spirit of summer lingers and murmurs its promise in the roar of the surf or the cries of seagulls.
